What We Believe

The United Church of Christ, formed from the Congregational Christian and Evangelical and Reformed denominations in 1957, is committed to:

  • Unity within diversity
  • Testimonies, not tests, of faith
  • The primacy of the Bible, which still speaks to us in our current condition – “there is yet more light and truth to break forth from God’s Holy Word”
  • Ministering to each other, and active involvement of all members in all aspects of the work of the church
  • Freedom to believe and act in accordance with our perception of God’s will, but a commitment to live in a loving, covenantal relationship with each other
  • An open and affirming faith, inclusive of people of all ages, races, genders, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, educational achievements, economic positions, family or marital status, and sexual orientations

Our Covenant

“In response to God’s love, made known to us in Jesus Christ, we covenant with the Lord and one with another and do bind ourselves in the presence of the Holy Spirit to walk together in all God’s ways, as God is pleased to reveal them to us in the blessed word of truth.”
